Where can I buy MOGO taxi brackets?

You can buy MOGO taxi brackets directly from our official website, MOGO.

We supply brackets to both individual taxi drivers and local authorities across the country.

If you are a licensing officer, you can log in to the secure MOGO Portal to place orders on behalf of your council. For drivers, our online shop makes it easy to order brackets, fittings, and accessories with just a few clicks.

Buying from MOGO ensures that you are getting genuine, high-quality taxi brackets that are fully tested for durability and compliance. Unlike generic alternatives, our brackets are designed specifically for the taxi and private hire trade, making them the trusted choice for licensing authorities nationwide.

What are MOGO brackets made from?

MOGO brackets are manufactured from premium-grade polycarbonate, a material known for its strength, resilience, and long life.

Polycarbonate is impact-resistant, weatherproof, and almost unbreakable, which makes it ideal for securely holding taxi plates in place in all conditions.

We designed our brackets to be as universal as possible, fitting the majority of vehicles without the need for drilling. This combination of high-quality material and user-friendly design ensures that MOGO brackets last longer, perform better, and help drivers and authorities meet compliance standards with confidence.

Are MOGO brackets universal?

MOGO brackets are designed to be as universal as possible, meaning they will fit the vast majority of cars used in the taxi and private hire industry.

However, due to differences in vehicle design, some minor adjustments may occasionally be needed.

To make fitting easier, we provide detailed bracket fitting guides.

These step-by-step instructions ensure drivers and licensing officers can install brackets correctly, safely, and without unnecessary hassle.

Can I fit a taxi licence plate myself?

Yes – many drivers choose to fit their own taxi licence plates using specialist brackets.

MOGO offers easy-to-install solutions that don’t require any specialist tools or vehicle modifications.

Always check with your local licensing authority before fitting.

How do I attach a taxi licence plate without drilling holes?

You can attach your licence plate using non-drill brackets, adhesive pads, or magnetic systems.

MOGO’s non-damaging plate holders are designed specifically for this purpose and work with most vehicle types.

Will double-sided tape hold a taxi licence plate securely?

While high-strength automotive tape can hold a plate temporarily, it’s not always suitable for long-term use—especially in bad weather.

MOGO recommends purpose-built brackets designed to keep plates secure without risking adhesive failure.

Can I use magnets to fix my taxi licence plate?

Magnetic mounts are sometimes used, but they must be strong enough to hold through all weather and vibration.

MOGO offers magnetic-compatible plate holders with reinforced grip, but you should always confirm that your licensing authority permits this method.

What’s the best way to fix a taxi licence plate without damaging the vehicle?

Using a non-permanent bracket with cushioned backing or magnetic pads is ideal.

MOGO brackets are specifically designed to avoid paint damage, drilling, or permanent marks – making them a preferred choice for leased or multi-use vehicles.

How do I know which licence plate bracket fits my taxi?

Different vehicle types require different bracket styles.

MOGO provides a handy Bracket Size Guide to help you choose the correct bracket based on your vehicle and local authority requirements.

Do I need to remove my taxi licence plate bracket during MOT or inspections?

In most cases, no. Our brackets are designed to comply with UK taxi licence display regulations and can remain in place.

However, we recommend checking with your licensing officer or MOT tester to confirm.

Are MOGO brackets approved by UK licensing authorities?

Our brackets are designed to meet common UK licensing standards and are used by thousands of drivers across the country.

Always check specific requirements with your local authority, as rules may vary.

Can I reuse my MOGO taxi licence plate bracket?

Yes – our brackets are designed to be removed and reused without damage. This is ideal if you’re changing vehicles or replacing an expired licence plate.

Is it legal to use adhesive or magnetic mounts for taxi plates?

Many licensing authorities accept secure adhesive or magnetic mounts, but this can vary by region.

We recommend using brackets specifically made for taxi use, and always verifying with your local council.

How do I fit a taxi or private hire vehicle door sign?

Fitting MOGO door signage is quick and simple. Our signs are available in two options, magnetic and self-adhesive vinyl, so you can choose the best format for your vehicle and licensing authority.

Magnetic signs: Ensure the vehicle surface is dry. and then simply position the sign flat against the metal door panel The magnetic backing will hold it securely in place while allowing easy removal when needed.

Self-adhesive vinyl signs: Clean and dry the surface first and ensure there is no dust or dirt. Peel back a small section of the adhesive liner and apply it carefully, pressing from the centre outward to avoid bubbles. Once in position, slowly peel the rest of the backing, smooth firmly to secure as you go.

You can watch our fitting video in the resources section below for more in depth instructions.

Always check with your local authority to confirm whether they permit magnetic or adhesive signage before fitting.

What’s the difference between magnetic and self-adhesive taxi door signs?

Both types of MOGO signage meet council visibility standards, the difference lies in how they attach:

Magnetic signs can be easily removed when the vehicle is off duty or being washed. They’re ideal for metal body panels and drivers who prefer flexibility.

Self-adhesive vinyl signs offer a permanent fit and are better suited for vehicles where magnets may not adhere, such as aluminium or composite panels.

Both versions are made using durable, weather-resistant materials designed to stay clear, bright, and professional for everyday use.

Are magnetic taxi door signs legal?

Yes, magnetic signs are legal in many areas, but some councils have specific rules about how door signage must be displayed. Always check with your licensing authority before fitting magnetic panels.

MOGO supplies both magnetic and self-adhesive options that can be customised to your council’s approved design, ensuring you remain compliant at all times.

How should I clean and maintain my taxi door signs?

To keep your signage looking professional and lasting longer:

Wipe magnetic signs regularly with a soft, damp cloth to remove dust and grit.

Clean both the magnet and vehicle surface before reattaching to prevent scratches.

For adhesive vinyl, wash gently with warm soapy water, avoid pressure washers or harsh chemicals.

All MOGO signs are designed with weather-resistant, UV-stable materials to maintain colour and clarity over time.

Are MOGO door signs compliant with UK taxi and PHV regulations?

Yes. MOGO door signage is designed in line with local authority standards for visibility, size, and durability. We supply signage to multiple councils across the UK as part of approved licensing packs.

Choosing MOGO ensures your signage meets all legal requirements while maintaining a clear, professional appearance for both taxis and private hire vehicles.

TAXI COMLIANCE FAQ'S

Do taxi drivers have to display ID?

Yes. In the UK, licensed taxi and private hire drivers are required by law to clearly display their driver ID badge while working.

The badge is issued by the local licensing authority and shows the driver’s name, photo, and licence number. This rule helps passengers identify their driver and ensures that only properly licensed drivers are operating.

Most councils require the badge to be worn at all times while driving a licensed vehicle, either on clothing or displayed prominently in the cab.

Where do taxi plates have to be displayed?

Taxi plates must be displayed on the back of the vehicle and also have a presence in the front windscreen.

These council-issued plates are essential for identifying a licensed taxi and contain vital information like the vehicle's unique licence number, registration number, and the number of passengers the vehicle is licensed to carry.

Check with your local authority for specific information.

How do taxi plates work?

Taxi plates are visible identifiers for licensed hackney carriages, taxis, or private hire vehicles, displaying key information such as the licence number, expiry date, and passenger capacity, and are required for public safety and to distinguish licensed taxis from regular vehicles.

What is the new HMRC law for taxi drivers?

From April 2025, HMRC introduced new rules requiring licensing authorities to check that taxi drivers are registered for tax before issuing or renewing a licence.

This is called the tax check.

Every driver applying for a taxi or private hire licence must complete a simple online HMRC check to prove they are correctly registered to pay tax on their income. Without a valid tax check code, councils cannot process a licence application or renewal. This law is designed to ensure fairness across the trade and compliance with HMRC tax rules.

Drivers can complete the tax check on the HMRC website.

What is the difference between a taxi and a private hire vehicle under UK law?

UK law makes a clear distinction between the two:

Taxis (Hackney Carriages): These can pick up passengers without a booking, be hailed on the street, and wait at taxi ranks. They usually have a meter to calculate fares and must display council-issued plates and signage.

Private Hire Vehicles (PHVs): These must be pre-booked through a licensed operator and cannot legally be hailed or pick up passengers without a booking. They also display council-issued plates and signage, secured with approved fittings.

Both taxis and PHVs must be licensed by a local authority, insured for hire and reward, and driven by licensed drivers.

What are the rules around taxi ranks?

Taxi ranks are designated spaces where licensed taxis (hackney carriages) can wait to be hired.

Only hackney carriages licensed by the local authority can use these ranks — private hire vehicles are not permitted to pick up passengers there.

Drivers must follow the rules set by their council, which usually include:

Waiting in the rank queue in order.
Not leaving the vehicle unattended.
Charging the correct metered fare.

Displaying proper ID badges, plates, and signage helps councils and passengers easily identify licensed taxis at ranks.

Do taxi drivers need to keep records of their work?

Yes. Both HMRC and local licensing authorities require drivers to keep accurate records. These may include details of bookings, income, expenses, and vehicle use. Good record-keeping is essential for tax compliance and licence renewals.

Drivers must also complete the HMRC tax check when renewing a licence, proving they are registered for tax. To make this easier, MOGO supplies professional stationery and logbooks that help drivers stay organised and compliant with both HMRC and council requirements.

What safety and compliance equipment must my vehicle carry?

Most councils require taxis and PHVs to carry basic safety equipment, such as:
- A fire extinguisher approved to British Standards.
- A first aid kit.
- A warning triangle or breakdown kit.

In addition, your vehicle must always display its licence plates and signage using approved fittings. MOGO brackets ensure plates remain secure, visible, and compliant at all times.

Are there Clean Air Zone or emission standard requirements for taxis?

Yes. Many UK cities now operate Clean Air Zones (CAZ) or Low Emission Zones (LEZ). Vehicles that do not meet minimum emission standards may have to pay a daily charge to enter.

Many councils are tightening licensing conditions so only Euro 6 diesel, Euro 4 petrol, or cleaner vehicles are licensed. Some cities offer grants or incentives for switching to electric or hybrid taxis. Always check with your local authority to confirm the rules that apply in your area.

Can I drive in different council areas?

Taxi drivers are licensed by a specific local authority and can only pick up passengers within that area. You can drop passengers anywhere, but you cannot be hailed or accept new hires outside your licensed district.

Private hire drivers can take passengers across council boundaries, but the booking must be made through an operator licensed by the same authority as the driver and vehicle. Operating outside these rules is illegal.
